Getting Started
What is envelope budgeting?▾
Envelope budgeting is a method where you divide your income into named categories ("envelopes") before you spend it. Each envelope has a set amount. When an envelope is empty, you either stop spending in that category or move money from another envelope. It's one of the most effective ways to stay on budget because you know exactly what you have left in each area of spending before you spend it.
Do I need to create an account?▾
No. Foldz has no accounts, no sign-up, and no login. Open the app and start budgeting. Your data is stored on your device — not in any cloud service.
Does Foldz connect to my bank?▾
No. Foldz is fully manual. You enter your income and spending yourself. There is no bank connection, no Plaid integration, and no access to any financial account. This is intentional — your financial data stays completely off any external server.
How do I get started?▾
When you first open Foldz, a short onboarding guide walks you through the basics: choose your budget period, add your income, create envelopes for your spending categories (Groceries, Transport, Dining Out, etc.), and assign your money across them. Tap any envelope to log spending as you go.
Using Foldz
What is "Ready to Assign"?▾
"Ready to Assign" is the amount of income you've added that hasn't yet been assigned to an envelope. The goal is to get this to zero — every dollar should have a job. If it's negative, you've assigned more than you have and need to reduce some envelope amounts.
How do budget periods work?▾
Foldz tracks your budget in periods — either monthly, weekly, or bi-weekly (Premium). At the start of each new period, your envelope spending resets to zero. Your envelope budgets stay the same, so you just add your new income and you're ready to go. You can navigate back to past periods to review your spending history using the arrows in the main header.
Can I move money between envelopes?▾
Yes. Swipe left on any envelope to access options, or tap into the envelope detail view. You can edit the budgeted amount for any envelope at any time. Adjusting one envelope reduces or increases your "Ready to Assign" balance accordingly.
What happens to my data when the period resets?▾
Your historical spending is preserved and accessible by navigating to past periods. The reset just means your spending tracker starts fresh for the new period — your envelope budgets and income records carry forward.
Can I export my data?▾
Yes, with Foldz Premium. The CSV Export feature (found in Settings) lets you export all transactions for the current period to a spreadsheet file that you can open in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets.
Privacy & Data
What data does Foldz collect?▾
Nothing. Foldz collects no personal data, no usage analytics, no crash reports, and no device identifiers. All your data is stored locally on your iPhone only and never transmitted to any server. See the
full Privacy Policy for details.
Is my budget backed up?▾
Foldz itself does not back up your data to any server. However, if you have iCloud Backup or local iTunes/Finder backup enabled on your iPhone, iOS will include Foldz data in that backup automatically. We recommend keeping backups enabled for this reason. If you delete the app without a backup, your data will be lost.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?▾
Deleting Foldz removes all your local data from the device. Since we store nothing on our servers, we cannot recover it. If you have an iCloud or device backup from before deletion, restoring from that backup will recover your data. If you're reinstalling, restore your device from a backup first.
Premium & Subscriptions
What does Foldz Premium include?▾
Foldz Premium unlocks: weekly and bi-weekly budget periods, the ability to set a custom week start day (Monday or Sunday), and CSV export of your transactions. Everything in the free tier remains available.
How do I cancel my Premium subscription?▾
Subscriptions are managed through Apple, not through Foldz. To cancel:
On iPhone:
Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → Foldz → Cancel Subscription
Or visit
apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep Premium access until then.
How do I restore my purchases on a new device?▾
Open Foldz on your new device, go to Settings (gear icon), and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase Premium. Your subscription will be recognised automatically.
Can I get a refund?▾
Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. To request a refund, visit
reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. Apple's standard refund policies apply.
Will the free tier always be available?▾
Yes. The core Foldz experience — unlimited envelopes, monthly budgeting, and income tracking — is free and will remain free. We won't remove or degrade the free tier to force upgrades.
Troubleshooting
Foldz is crashing or behaving unexpectedly.▾
Please try: (1) Force-close and reopen the app. (2) Check if an app update is available in the App Store. (3) Restart your iPhone. If the issue persists, email us at
hello@sparkbytdigital.com with your iOS version and a description of what you were doing when it happened.
My Premium features aren't showing after purchase.▾
Go to Settings in Foldz and tap "Restore Purchases." This re-validates your purchase with Apple and should unlock Premium features. If it still doesn't work, contact us with your Apple ID email and purchase date.
I have a feature request or feedback.▾
We'd love to hear it. Email
hello@sparkbytdigital.com with your idea. As a small team we can't commit to timelines, but genuine user feedback directly shapes what we build next.
